A Backyard Ultra is a last-person-standing endurance race where participants complete a 6.7 km loop every hour, on the hour. Runners must complete each loop within the hour and return to the start line for the next. Any runner who fails to finish within the hour, or is not present in the starting corral for the next loop, is eliminated. Each loop starts precisely on the hour, with warnings at 3, 2, and 1 minute before the start. No late starts are permitted. There is no fixed race distance—the event continues until only one runner remains. The winner is the final runner to successfully complete a loop after all others have been eliminated.
