Ep 1 Irish trail running legend and UTMB race winner Eoin Keith
· Trail Running Ireland Podcast
In the first episode of Trail Running Ireland, Eoin Flynn talks to Eoin Keith about staying strong through lockdown, what racing has taught him about life, and his podiums at UTMB races in Argentina, France and Oman. Ruairi Long brings the latest results and fixtures, and René Borg explains how to train when races disappear.
Eoin introduces a new podcast for the trail and mountain running community in Ireland. Ruairi reports on the last IMRA races before lockdown, IMRA's first virtual relay, run as solo 2 km legs within the 2 km limit, and races postponed by the restrictions, including the Waterville Trail Running Festival.
René explains how coaches have responded to cancelled races. He suggests time trials to target a clear weakness, and warns that a hard session can lower immune activity for about five hours, so runners should eat well afterwards and judge their training load carefully. Longer-term goals give time to build an aerobic base, which takes at least 12 weeks, alongside short-term training goals to stay motivated.
