Ep 52 Running in a state of flow with Tomasz Drybala
· Trail Running Ireland Podcast
Eoin Flynn talks to Tomasz Drybala, a Polish runner living in London who took up serious running to rebuild his mental health and is about to set off to run 40,075 km around the world. Tomasz explains how he discovered the state of flow, the conditions that make it more likely, and how he breaks huge days into 15-minute chunks.
With René Borg on holiday, Eoin goes straight to the feature interview after a word for sponsor EcoTrail Wicklow, which takes place in Bray on 24 September with 19k, 30k, 46k and 80k distances.
Tomasz describes losing his business and going through a divorce around 2015, and running more and more to clear his head. He talks about walking and running five million steps in 100 days in Asia in 2019, then setting out to run 11,000 km from Hanoi to Bali before the pandemic stopped him. Watching for snakes on jungle roads forced him into the present moment, and that is where he first found flow.
