Ep 55 Ireland's over-35 world champion and national half marathon champion Kate Purcell
· Trail Running Ireland Podcast
After a hugely successful World Masters Mountain Running Championships in Clonmel, Eoin Flynn and René Borg look back on the race and on how to approach the weeks after a big target race. Kate Purcell, the new over-35 world champion, who won the national half marathon title the next morning, talks about her path from a late start to world gold and the simple training week behind it.
Eoin congratulates the Kerry Way Ultra finishers and gives a word for sponsor EcoTrail Wicklow on 24 September, with entries closing on Sunday 11 September.
Eoin and René praise the relaxed organisation in Clonmel and the creative uphill course, which packed about 650 metres of climbing onto a small hill. They look at the outstanding fastest time of the day and how much training lay behind it, and at Ireland's medal haul and green-singlet crowds. René explains the recovery he recommends after an ultra and why, after a shorter race like Clonmel, many runners can make the most of their form with road races, cross-country or a marathon. He also previews the new flat section around the Roundwood reservoirs on the EcoTrail 80k.
