This one’s a proper Northern Irish classic – Ireland’s very first mass-participation off-road marathon, launched back in 2009 and still one of the toughest and most respected trail races on the island. Set deep in the Mourne Mountains around Rostrevor and Newry in Co. Down, it’s raw, rugged mountain running that’ll test your legs, lungs and nerve. The views across the hills, the changeable weather and that feeling of being properly out in the wild make it special. It’s got ITRA points on the bigger distances too, so you know it’s the real deal for serious trail runners.
